ChessMogg is operated by LiNGUiD LLC. We process account information, public chess games, coaching interactions, progress and product usage to provide and improve personalized chess training. Processing occurs both on your device and on our servers. We do not sell personal data or use an advertising SDK.
1. Accounts and contact preferences
We store your verified contact email, account identifier, linked sign-in identities, selected chess username, hashed sessions and passkey public keys. Apple sign-in may provide a private relay address. Passkey private keys and biometric data remain with your device or credential provider. Google and Apple provide sign-in services; Resend delivers verification emails. Product updates and research invitations are separate, optional email preferences, off by default and changeable in Account settings. Game monitoring is not consent to marketing or research emails. Founder inbox messages and timestamps are stored to support your conversation.
2. Games, training and progress
ChessMogg retrieves public games and ratings from Chess.com or Lichess using the username you link. The app caches games locally; our Cloudflare services and Render background workers also process game data to analyze play and prepare personal exercises. Stored training data can include positions, moves, game links, opponent names, clocks, opening information, engine evaluations, solutions, attempts, results and progress. We maintain a chess-specific coaching profile and supporting evidence to personalize training. Monitoring can check for new public games while the app is closed. Manage progress tracking in Settings. Clearing a local game cache or uninstalling does not delete your server-side account or training history.
3. AI coaching and voice
Your questions and relevant chess context, including game moves, positions, analysis, recent conversation and coaching-profile information, are sent through Cloudflare to our AI providers, OpenAI and, when selected, DeepSeek, as required for the selected coaching or analysis feature. Voice recordings are sent for transcription; ChessMogg does not retain the recordings on its servers. Generated voice audio may be cached on your device. Conversation history can persist on your device. Reports and chess-specific coaching memory are stored server-side to support ongoing training. Avoid including sensitive personal information in messages. Providers process submitted data under their respective policies.
4. Notifications
If you allow notifications, we associate a push token with your account. Apple and Expo deliver notifications such as founder-chat messages, report completion, relevant game findings and practice reminders. Device notification permission is separate from game monitoring and optional email preferences. You can turn notifications off in device settings.
5. Purchases
Apple or Google and RevenueCat process purchases, subscription status, transaction information and account identifiers. We use entitlement information to provide paid features. ChessMogg does not receive your full payment-card details.
6. Product analytics
PostHog receives product-usage and diagnostic events to help us understand onboarding, feature use, waiting times, errors, subscriptions and where people stop using the app. Events use an installation identifier before sign-in and an account identifier after sign-in, allowing activity to be associated with your ChessMogg account. These identifiers are pseudonymous, not anonymous. Our account system separately holds your contact email. Funnel analytics are not intended to contain email addresses, chess usernames, private messages, recordings or full games. Authorized staff may match an account identifier to its contact record for support or, where you have opted in, research invitations. We do not use this information for advertising. Our website also records visits, App Store-link clicks and limited campaign information. Cloudflare and other infrastructure providers receive ordinary network information necessary to operate and protect the service.
7. Other processing and providers
Local chess engines and our server-side engine analyze positions. Lichess may receive a board position for cached evaluation; bundled opening and puzzle datasets are derived from public chess data. Service providers include Cloudflare, Render, OpenAI, DeepSeek, Google, Apple, Expo, RevenueCat, PostHog and Resend. Their own policies govern data they process in their respective roles.
8. Retention and choices
Account-linked training information, reports and coaching memory support your continuing account. Local history remains until cleared, replaced or the app is uninstalled. Deleting local data does not by itself remove server records. Use account deletion in Settings or contact us for access, correction or deletion requests, including analytics records associated with your account. Some purchase, security or legally required records may be retained where necessary; third-party retention policies also apply. Usage-limit counters and operational logs have separate retention periods. Optional email preferences can be changed without deleting your account. Contact us with questions about a particular record or provider.
9. Children and policy changes
Do not include sensitive personal information in chats. Contact us about information submitted by a child. We will update this policy when our practices change and communicate material changes through the app or release notes.
