Lichess game review: the complete guide
Lichess gives you one of the best free game review setups in chess: unlimited Stockfish analysis on every game. Here's how to use it properly, and what to add when single-game review stops being enough.
How to review a Lichess game (free)
- Open the finished game from your profile.
- Request computer analysis if it hasn't run yet. Lichess marks inaccuracies, mistakes and blunders and shows an evaluation graph.
- Click the big swings in the graph. Those are your turning points.
- Use Learn from your mistakes to replay the critical positions and find the better move yourself.
- Open the position in the analysis board to test alternatives.
Does Lichess have game review like Chess.com?
Lichess has computer analysis rather than Chess.com-style "Game Review" with labels like "brilliant" and a narrated summary. The engine analysis is free and unlimited. What it doesn't do is explain moves in plain language, or connect a mistake to the same mistake in your other games.
Get more from Lichess analysis
- Annotate first. Write your thoughts before requesting analysis (see how to analyze chess games).
- Use the opening explorer to see where you left theory, and what's normally played.
- Study your openings tab to find lines where you score badly.
- Keep a lessons list across games; Lichess won't do this for you.
Review all your Lichess games at once with ChessMogg
ChessMogg imports your games from your public Lichess username (or Chess.com) and looks across hundreds of them for recurring positions and mistakes. Chad, your AI chess coach, turns each pattern into a lesson with the position from your game, explains the idea in plain language, and gives you positions to solve. Every lesson position is checked with Stockfish.
The Classical Caro-Kann main line. A typical lesson: why Black meets h4–h5 with ...h6 and ...Bh7, keeping the bishop safe instead of letting it get trapped or traded on bad terms.
